Casa Santos Lima is the winery that produces Colossal Reserva Red, and it is quite the operation! Producing wines from five different regions of Portugal, they are actually the largest producer in Lisboa, the region that Colossal Red Reserva comes from. Family owned for over four generations, their wines have a presence in almost 50 countries on 5 continents. Managing over 400 hectares, or 988 acres and producing wines of many different styles, the Santos Lima family is truly an ambassador of Portuguese wines around the world.
Colossal Red Reserva is made from a blend of three different grapes: Syrah, Touriga Nacional, and Alicante Bouschet. Alicante is often found as a blending grape in wines from the Rhone Valley in France. Touriga Nacional is a typical Portuguese grape, also used in Ports, and Syrah is a modern choice to use as part of a blend in Portugal. In fact you could look at this wine as a Poruguese homage to a Rhone Valley red!
