About Muros Antigos Alvarinho
Muros Antigos Alvarinho is a white wine aged on lees made by Anselmo Mendes with the native Albariño variety in the Vinho Verde denomination, in Minho (Portugal).

A winemaker by vocation, Anselmo Mendes spends his life innovating in his country’s winemaking industry. Located in Monçao, a Portuguese town near Galicia, he is known around the world for his commitment to combining old practices with new technologies. Recognised as the most innovative Albariño producer and one of the largest Portuguese wine producers, his wines are authentic and seek to reveal the local character rather than achieve perfection.

Muros Antigos Alvarinho comes from vineyards lying between mountains, on slopes along the Atlantic coast. These are native vines planted mainly on granite soils. They are cultivated using traditional agriculture with an understanding of the terroir’s expression and the harvest is carried out manually in small boxes at the optimum point of ripeness.

The Muros Antigos Alvarinho grapes are destemmed and gently pressed and the resulting must is cold clarified for 48 to 72 hours. Fermentation takes place at a low temperature of 14-18ºC in stainless steel tanks and then the wine ages for a minimum of 3 months on its fine lees and with periodic battonages.

Muros Antigos Alvarinho is an example of precision and honesty. A great introduction to the amazing world of Anselmo Mendes, a winemaker who masterfully cultivates the region’s native grape.
