It is no wonder that under the watchful eye of Lynch Bage's Cazes family that the detail in this wine is so evident. A mix of currant jam, dried figs and blackberries unite with the classical dried floral and herb nuances that prove why Chateauneuf is such a standout region. This has seamless structure with sweet tannins and underlying acidity giving it harmonious balance. That is always one of the distinguishing characteristics of Senechaux - it's the balance. Never overt, always just right. Though very approachable now, it is an almost charming yet classical rendition that surely will develop with a few years in the cellar".

Outer quote mark Refined and restrained aromas of smoke, raspberry and cinnamon. Velvety on the palate, showing a generous fruit concentration of ripe fruit. Rounded and opulent, with silky tannins. (MW) Inner quote mark (2/2022)

Outer quote mark Looking at the red, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape is brilliant and should be snatched up by readers. Offering a thrilling nose of ripe strawberries, black raspberries, garrigue, and flowers, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, ripe, silky tannins, no hard edges, and a great, great finish. It’s going to drink fabulously well over the coming 10-15 years. The blend is 57% Grenache, 24% Syrah, and 19% Mourvèdre, brought up in a mix of foudre, old barrels, and concrete tanks. Outer quote mark Senechaux's 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape is a blend of 57% Grenache, 24% Syrah and 19% Mourvèdre, aged in a combination of foudres, older barriques and concrete tanks. It offers up a nice array of fruit flavors, ranging from grilled cherries and red-skinned plums to fresh red raspberries. Full-bodied, supple and easy to drink already, it finishes with ample length and mouthwatering acids. (JC) Inner quote mark (5/2022)

K&L Notes
Domaine Senechaux lies in the heart of what is known as the Sheriff's Wood - Les Bois Senechaux. The current landscape of the property was developed primarily in the 1950s and tended by the Raynaud family. In 2006, the estate was purchased by the Jean-Michel Cazes of Lynch-Bages fame and its newest iteration began. The wines are made classically but with a modern eye towards deriving the best from each grape. The blend is made up of 47% Grenache, 32% Syrah, 19% Mourvèdre, and a mix of 2% Cinsault and Vaccarèse. Syrah and Mourvèdre are aged in one-year-old barrels from Lynch Bages while the Grenache sees a mix of some wood and large vat. The composition is always a seamless blend of the best that this region has to offer.
