The region best know for it's Sylvaners is also home to some high altitude Pinot Noirs that showcase more of that earthy,cool minerality native to the area. An excellent, affordable alternative for Burgundy lovers!
Weingut Peter Leipold is a family estate in Franken, Germany that produces a range of delicious wines from many of Germany's classic varietals. For them, viticulture is teamwork, with multiple generations helping in the vineyard, where all work is done manually. Today, Peter Leipold is the winemaker; he was recently counted as one of the top 25 young winemakers in Germany.
This is his “Grand Cru” – top quality pinot noir – some new barrels and a mix of ex-Conti and Liger-Belair barrels, all free run juice. All French clones, cuttings from undisclosed French vineyard via Daniel Twardowski. Site is southwest facing. 40% new Francois Freres barrels, the rest are used barrels from DRC. 40% whole bunch. 27-year old vines in the “filet” portion of the Lansdknecht Muschelkalk hill.
