Aveleda S.A. is a family-owned company that has been managed by the Guedes family for over three centuries. The first records of the sale of bottled wine date back to 1870 with Manuel Pedro Guedes (1837-1899), who was known for his strong enterprising spirit and believed to be the founder of the business as we know it today. Today the Guedes family still owns 100% of the company, always committed to maintaining this family legacy which spans several generations. Manuel’s son, Fernando Guedes da Silva da Fonseca (1871-1946), continued his father's work, significantly increasing the production capacity at the estate. He had 7 children and it was Roberto Van-Zeller Guedes (1899-1966) who led the family business, dedicating his whole life to working at Aveleda. The 4th generation includes the six children of Roberto - Fernando, Luís, António, Maria Isabel, Maria Helena and Roberto – who manage the company today. A market leader in the Vinho Verde Region, Aveleda is one of the largest wine producers in Portugal and exports over half of its output to 60 countries across the globe. The family owns 120 hectares (296.4 acres) of vines. The ancient vines hanging on trees were replaced by trellised vines on wires.

Praia, which means "beach" in Portuguese, is a smooth and fresh wine with delicate and lovely fruity flavors. Slightly spritzy, it is well balanced and very refreshing.

Pairings: The wine is ideal as an aperitif or throughout a meal, especially with fish, seafood, white meat and salads. Due to it freshness, it is particularly pleasant in a relaxed and informal ambiance. Perfect pairing with scampi or light starters like pineapple and shrimp toasts, and compliments beautifully any seafood dishes such as sushi, sea bass, etc. Proper serving temperature should be between 46-50ºF

Vinification: Grapes are pressed at low pressures. The must is clarified and fermented at controlled temperatures with selected yeasts. Before bottling, the wine is filtered and cold stabilized. No oak. The region is typical for its unique wines that are fresh and light, combined with a very well balanced acidity. These characteristics result from the region's unique soil and climate, with a strong Atlantic influence that you will identify when you taste it.
