Founded in 1962 and based in the village of Bertinoro, just to the west of the city of Cesena in Romagna, Tenuta la Viola has always focused on making classic-style wines that reflect the region and a respect for the environment. Since 1999 the vineyards have been certified organic, and 2018 marks the first vintage produced from biodynamic principles. The vineyards are situated on rolling hills that face the Adriatic, and on the other side are the Tosco-Romagnolo Apennines, which creates a microclimate that brings in cooling breezes, ultimately helping maintain the health of the vineyards and balance of acidity and ripeness in the fruit. The soil is a mixture of clay and limestone, with ancient marine sediments.

First made in 2005, “Oddone” was created to remind us that it’s not always necessary to drink big, serious wines, and that simple, pleasurable bottles also have their place. Lighter in body and tannin than Tenuta La Viola’s “Il Colombarone,” “Oddone” is fermented in steel vats and spends a relatively short time on its skins. In the glass, it is bright and fresh with flavors of red fruits, rose petal, and a touch of tomato leaf. This is the perfect wine to have on pizza night, when a classic Neapolitan pie needs an equally simple yet delicious wine by its side.

Tenuta la Viola is a winery located in the hills overlooking the Adriatic Sea of Bertinoro. This area enjoys exceptional characteristics both in terms of climate and soil, which give rise to excellent quality wines. In fact, the climate is characterized by daily light breezes, while the soil is clayey, rich in limestone and ancient marine sediments. Oddone is a Sangiovese that perfectly represents the winemaking tradition of Emilia Romagna. This wine owes its name to a character from Bertinoro from the 11th century, who loved wine and lightheartedness. Oddone is made thanks to a vinification in steel tanks and a subsequent refinement in the bottle for 3 months.

Like all Sangiovese, Oddone also has an intense ruby red color. Its scent is reminiscent of wild berries and violets. When you drink it, however, you will be invaded by the freshness and persistence of the wine.
