Pure and vibrant, with pear, juicy peach and nectarine, orange zest, candied peel, toasted nuts, praline and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and racy, it pairs depth with energy and tension and ends on a long, saline, mineral finish.

Food pairings: Butter-poached lobster, turbot or halibut in beurre blanc, scallops, roast chicken or veal with morels and cream, and aged Comté.
Winemaking: The grapes are harvested by hand, pressed slowly and fermented with indigenous yeasts in French oak barrels from François Frères, 10 to 30% of them new. The wine ages for about 18 months in barrel before settling on its lees in tank, and is bottled unfined and usually unfiltered, with very little obvious oak influence.
Vineyards and terroir: La Maltroie lies right across the street from the Moreau cellar in Chassagne-Montrachet, so it is constantly under the family's eye. Its limestone and gravel over Argovian marl give deeper, richer soils than its neighbors, and wines that combine generosity with energy and a pure, saline finish.
Family and history: The Moreau family's winemaking roots go back to 1809, when Auguste Moreau built the first cellar across from La Maltroie. Marcel Moreau built up the estate in the 1930s, and in 1977 Alex's father Bernard put his own name on the label, making Domaine Bernard Moreau one of the great names of Chassagne-Montrachet. Alex joined in 1995 and vinified more than 25 vintages there before taking full control in 2020; 2021 was the first vintage under the Domaine Alex Moreau label, which he runs with his wife Martine.
