Food pairings: Roast poultry, lobster and other rich seafood, creamy sauces, and soft or aged cheeses.
Winemaking: Hand harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts in French oak barrels (primarily François Frères), about 10 to 30% new. Aged 14 to 15 months in barrel with lees stirring, then bottled without fining or filtering.
Vineyards and terroir: Village Chassagne-Montrachet from light clay soils. Recent descriptions place the blend across about 15 plots: roughly one third from the sector between Morgeot and Champs Gain, and two thirds from the northern side of the village toward Puligny-Montrachet.
Family and history: The Moreau family's roots in Chassagne-Montrachet go back to 1809, when Auguste Moreau built the first cellar across from the La Maltroie vineyard. Marcel Moreau built up the estate in the 1930s, and in 1977 Alex's father Bernard put his own name on the label. Alex joined in 1995 and vinified more than 25 vintages there before taking full control in 2020; 2021 was the first vintage under the Domaine Alex Moreau label, which he now runs with his wife Martine.
