Why is it that no one seems to know about these wines? Perhaps because they come from Umbria, a region as idyllic as Tuscany, with the same perfect little villages perched on hills, the same incredible churches, and paintings, and food. Umbria has everything that Tuscany does in fact, with the exception of crowds and…well, Florence!
An alternative to Chianti, this Umbrian rosso combines the structure and acidity of Sangiovese (70%), the power and intensity of the local Sagrantino grape (15%) with a healthy wallop of Merlot (15%) for lushness enough to please the modern wine palate. The rosso is aged for one year in large, neutral barrels and just six months in bottle. The result is a bright cherry color wine with ripe fruit aromas of plum and black cherry, a full body and dry persistent finish. Great with red meat, pasta with meat sauce, or anything rustic and meaty!
