It’s lifted and graceful in style, soft textured yet slender, with tart wild berry fruits and salty mineral tones guided by a core of brisk acidity. The 2022 leaves the palate drenched in primary concentration and a coating of fine tannins, austere yet still juicy, as a pleasantly bitter tinge fades slowly. The 2022 is still tightly wound and in need of further cellaring, but with that said, it has the balance and complexity to mature beautifully over time." -Vinous
Chiara Condello (pictured above) is a wine producer based in the town of Fiumana di Predappio, in southern Emilia-Romagna, some 60 miles southeast of Bologna, Italy. The vineyards are run organically and the grapes are hand-harvested. The wines are made with minimal intervention (and low rates of sulfur) and are fermented and aged in large-format oak vats and casks.
Chiara’s wines highlight the uniqueness of Predappio’s terroir—the native Sangiovese clone here produces wines with smaller berries, thicker skins, and an expressive, silky character that captures both elegance and energy. With meticulous whole-berry fermentations and aging in large Slavonian oak botti, her Sangiovese delivers a nuanced perfume, fresh acidity, and remarkable finesse that have quickly made her a rising star in Italian wine.
