Winemaking: The Beast is Del Dotto's flagship Cabernet Sauvignon, born of "the dream" to create the world's greatest Cabernet: a selection of the best barrels from the family's estate vineyards. The 2022 was aged for 24 months in new French oak.
Vineyards and terroir: The 2022 draws on Del Dotto's estate vineyards across Napa Valley: 50% St. Helena Mountain, 23% Vineyard 887, 13% Oakville, 7% Howell Mountain, 5% Villa Del Lago and 2% Rutherford Estate.
Family and history: The Del Dotto family traces its winemaking heritage to Italy. Dave and Yolanda Del Dotto began their Napa Valley story in 1988 with the purchase of a Rutherford estate, and over the following decades assembled vineyards across some of Napa Valley's celebrated appellations. The family is known for its candlelit cave tastings, which show how different oak barrels shape a wine, and for its Venetian-style Estate Winery & Caves in St. Helena.
