100% Gamay

Food pairings: Red meats, duck and game, and aged cheeses.

Winemaking: The grapes are picked by hand and sorted twice, in the vineyard and again on a vibrating table in the cellar. In the Beaujolais tradition, the whole clusters go into the vats for a semi-carbonic maceration of about 15 days, with only native yeasts, temperatures held below 28 °C and a single, very light pump-over a day for a gentle extraction. After a slow, low-pressure pressing and a full malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for about 12 months in large oak foudres and bottled unfiltered or only very lightly filtered to keep all its aromas and structure.

Vineyards and terroir: Corcelette is a climat of the Morgon cru, and the domaine's Gamay grows there on deep, weathered granite facing south, at around 320 meters. The old vines, about 45 years old on average and spread over several parcels, are trained in the traditional gobelet style and densely planted, so that each vine competes with its neighbours, and yields are kept low. The vineyards are farmed without chemical fertilizers, with light surface tilling, copper and sulfur treatments and most of the work done by hand; 2023 was one of the domaine's last years in conversion to organic farming, with certification from the 2024 vintage.

Family and history: Jean-Jacques Mélinand founded the Domaine des Marrans in 1970 with the Clos du Pavillon vines in Fleurie, and in 1989 built a new winery on the plateau of the lieu-dit Les Marrans, on the road between Fleurie and Morgon. His son Mathieu, after studying viticulture and winemaking and working harvests in Australia and New Zealand, took over the family domaine in 2009 and brought with him the Morgon Corcelette vines. His brother Camille joined him in 2019. Today they farm Gamay in Fleurie, Chiroubles and Morgon, as well as Beaujolais and Beaujolais-Villages, plus a little Chardonnay.
