"The 2021 Vidiano Aspros Lagos has an attractive bouquet of lychee, melon and Conference pear, with just a slight Muscat note in the background. The palate is quite powerful and intense, although the acidity keeps this on an even keel and I appreciate the pithy, waxy-textured finish. Worth seeking out and serving slightly chilled."

"Vidiano Dafnios is unoaked, dry and comes in at 13 alcohol. This has beautiful purity of fruit, as always, a sense of elegance and a fresh feel. I'm not sure it has as much power and depth as in some years, but it seems like the essence of the grape. The finish is long, tasty and delicious. At the price point, you can't go wrong."

The Wine
Vidiano is an ancient Cretan variety which was fading into extinction before being revived by young winemakers like Nikolas and the Alexakis brothers. Dafnios is the adjectival form of Dafnes the home town and principal appellation of the family. (The name of the town itself is a reference to the laurel tree.) 100 Vidiano made entirely in steel.
