“This white is harmonious and creamy in texture, featuring floral, peach, apple tart and lemon cake flavors, all buoyed by vibrant acidity. The oak treatment is subtle, with flashes of baking spices, and this ends with fine length.” -Wine Spectator

While the historic vineyard holdings of Domaine Leflaive in and around Puligny require no introduction, there are still many who are not familiar with the extensive investment the domaine has made in the last decade (and more) in the Mâcon, about an hour and a half drive south. Since 2004 the domaine has expanded into the Mâconnais and cultivates some 20 hectares in Mâcon-Verzé and Solutré-Pouilly.

Long an area for wines that were drinkable but perhaps never achieved the promise of the Côte d’Or, the Mâconnais today is an area where some of the most exciting (and still value-driven) chardonnays in all of Burgundy are being crafted. Farmed in the same biodynamic manner as the rest of the domaine’s holdings, these terroirs offer the same Domaine Leflaive signature pedigree while exploring the unique climats present in this sub-region.

Domaines Leflaive represents an extension of Domaine Leflaive in the Mâcaonnais region (vineyard noted above) to explore the family’s extensive vineyard holdings which are either owned or leased long term through the family’s close knit relationships in the region. The vineyards are all certified Organic and Biodynamic, and the family directly handles all work in the vineyards, harvest, as well as the wines vinification in the Domains cellar in Puligny-Montrachet.

Brice de La Morandière (pictured above), the great-grandson of the esteemed founder Joseph Leflaive, proudly upholds the family’s storied legacy as the fourth-generation steward of the Domaine. After an accomplished career in international business, he assumed leadership in 2015, succeeding his visionary aunt Anne-Claude Leflaive, a pioneer in biodynamic viticulture.

With an unwavering commitment to the principles of biodynamics and respect for the land, Brice continues to honor the Domaine’s dedication to excellence. His stewardship reflects a deep reverence for the iconic terroirs of Puligny-Montrachet, a relentless pursuit of quality, and a profound belief in the harmony between nature and winemaking. Under his guidance, the Domaine remains a benchmark in the world of fine wine, shaping the future while preserving its rich heritage.
