At Contessa Entellina, where Donnafugata comes from
In the settings of the Gattopardo
In the heart of Western Sicily - among the hills of Contessa Entellina, between 200 and 500 m a.s.l. - lie the vineyards Donnafugata comes from. The climate is Mediterranean, with rain concentrates during the autumn and winter months, dry and breezy summers, with a great range of air temperature variations between day and night. The soils are predominantly medium-clayey, but vary accouding to the peculiarities of the individual districts.
Sustainability at the service of quality
Sustainable management of agricultural activities: For over 30 years we have been pursuing environmental sustainability with a system of good practices; we do not use herbicies and chemical fertilizers and we minimize the use of pesticides. At the Contessa Entellina estate, we installed two photovoltaic systems in 2002 and 2008, in order to produce clean energy and reduce our emissions.
The study of native varieties
Biodiversity, an expression of an authentic Sicily: Since 2009, we have been committed to the protection and enhancement of Sicilian wine biodiversity thanks to an experimental vineyard with 19 native varieties including some heritage varieties, which have almost completely disappeared.
Sedàra
Dedicated to the irresistible and ambitious Angelica Sedàra with green eyes, the fashinatig Claudia Cardinale, protagonist of the film “Il Gattopardo” (The Leopard) directed by Luchino Visconti. The label, also in the new version, refers to the Contessa Entellina winer.
