Close86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, 5% Syrah, 3% Malbec, 1% Cabernet Franc
Food pairings: Grilled steak, lamb sugo with pappardelle, roasted root vegetables and hard aged cheeses.
Winemaking: Aged 19 months in 100% French oak, 35% new and 65% neutral. The cool 2022 season and a warm, dry autumn gave plush tannins and bright acidity; harvest finished November 2.
Vineyards and terroir: Red Mountain AVA fruit from some of the appellation's finest growers, including Canvasback's own Longwinds Estate Vineyard high on the mountain. Southwest slopes, big day-night swings and mineral-rich soils define Red Mountain Cabernet.
Family and history: Canvasback is The Duckhorn Portfolio's Washington Cabernet project, launched with the 2012 vintage and named for the Canvasback duck of the Pacific Flyway. Winemaker Joe Czarny (succeeding founding winemaker Brian Rudin in 2023) leads Canvasback and Greenwing.
