Close100% Pinot Noir
Food pairings: Roast chicken, grilled salmon, mushroom dishes, duck breast, and pork with herb pan sauces.
Winemaking: Fruit from about 30 distinct Hirsch farming blocks is harvested and vinified separately, then assembled into the estate's signature Pinot. The 2023 aged in French oak, 32% new, and was bottled in July 2024.
Vineyards and terroir: 100% Hirsch estate fruit from Fort Ross-Seaview on the West Sonoma Coast, planted from the 1980s through the 2000s across dozens of small blocks on the Franciscan mélange half a mile from the San Andreas Fault. Elevations run roughly 1,100 to 1,500 feet, with a fearsome diversity of soils, aspects and microclimates that define this wine.
Family and history: David Hirsch bought the remote ridge ranch in 1978 and planted the first vines in 1980; the estate winery followed in 2003 after years of selling fruit to top Sonoma Coast producers. Daughter Jasmine Hirsch has guided winemaking since 2019, farming biodynamically. David calls this bottling "the Hirsch Hirsch"—the summation of their complex vineyard.
