"The name of our most successful wine Ad Astra is gleaned from the Latin phrase Per Aspera Ad Astra — “a rough road leads to the stars”. A phrase that is also true for great wines, as greatness requires a great deal of loving work and care in the vineyards. Ad Astra is an approachable yet simultaneously complex red wine that is also a pleasure when enjoyed young." -Winemaker Notes
""The 2022 Ad Astra, Nittardi's Maremma wine, is terrific. It offers up copious blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, menthol, licorice and chocolate. Pretty floral notes reappear on the finish to add brightness. This sumptuous Sangiovese/Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc blend will drink well on release." -Vinous
The term Super Tuscan was conceived in the 1980s as a way to characterize red wines produced in Tuscany that didn’t conform to traditional (DOCG) standards. Back then Super Tuscans were still relatively affordable. Nowadays though top bottlings such as Ornellaia, Sassicaia, and Tignanello are some of the most coveted in all of Italy and they command a high price tag. But to me the true Super Tuscans are wines that still supersede their more conformist relatives, delivering incredible depth of flavor and incredible value. Nittardi’s Maremma Toscanas do just that.
