Food pairings: Barbecue, burgers and your favorite cut of beef.
Winemaking: The grapes are hand-harvested, de-stemmed and crushed, then fermented in stainless steel tanks with an extended maceration after fermentation. Malolactic fermentation and 12 months of aging in French oak (45% new) marry the wine's flavors and tannins, and small amounts of complementary varieties such as Merlot are blended in for depth of color and silky texture. In 2023 a cool, wet winter and spring and a mild summer gave a long, even ripening, with harvest running from October 1 to November 5.
Vineyards and terroir: Oberon blends Cabernet from across Napa County, including Oakville, Oak Knoll, Yountville, Suscol Ridge, Chiles Valley, Pope Valley and Capell Valley. Layering fruit from sparse volcanic hillside soils with the deeper alluvial soils of the valley floor creates a seamless, richly textured Cabernet.
Family and history: Oberon is made by winemaker Tony Coltrin, a St. Helena native and lifelong Napa Valley resident with more than 50 years of harvests behind him. His long relationships with growers throughout the valley let him source top-quality fruit year after year. The wine is cellared by the Michael Mondavi Family.
