In 1793, Antoine Amedie Peychaud, an apothecary, fled San Domingo for New Orleans with one important possession, the recipe for a compounding of a liquid tonic called bitters. Today, Peychaud’s Bitters are produced according to the original recipe at Buffalo Trace Distillery.
