Vibrant and primary, with aromas of honeydew, Ruby Red grapefruit, Fuji apple, lime and white flowers. Juicy and zesty on entry, its pithy citrus and green-fruit flavors meet a delicately creamy, supple texture and a fresh, balanced finish.

100% Chardonnay

Food pairings: Seafood and poultry: seared or grilled white fish, shrimp scampi, lemon-garlic seafood pasta or creamy pasta, roast chicken or pork, a hearty pot pie, and mild, creamy cheeses such as Brie.

Winemaking: Sandhi ferments its 2023 Central Coast Chardonnay with indigenous yeasts and makes no additions or subtractions of any kind, preferring to emphasize the attributes of a place over the tools in the winery. The wine was raised for nine months in a combination of neutral 500-liter barrels (34%), neutral 228-liter barrels (49%) and stainless-steel tank (17%), building a gentle, creamy texture while keeping its vibrant fruit and freshness.

Vineyards and terroir: The Central Coast Chardonnay draws on notable vineyards in the Sta. Rita Hills of Santa Barbara County and the SLO Coast of San Luis Obispo County. Of particular note are the Spanish Springs and Norgrove Gardens vineyards, both just over two miles from the Pacific, which bring vibrancy and marine freshness, while the Sta. Rita Hills fruit adds texture for a balanced, delicious wine. The Sta. Rita Hills are defined by constant cool ocean breezes, powerful sunshine and marine sedimentary soils on an ancient seabed.

Family and history: Sandhi grew out of a meeting in 2004 between Rajat Parr and winemaker Sashi Moorman, who shared a love of the energetic, Burgundy-inspired Chardonnays of Santa Barbara County's Sanford & Benedict Vineyard. After a first bottling of Sanford & Benedict Chardonnay in 2009, Sandhi took off with the following vintage, following two principles: buy Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from responsibly farmed vineyards, and vinify them all the same to show the coastal nuance of each site. The name is the Sanskrit word for collaboration, reflecting the growers, vineyard workers and cellar team behind every bottle. Sashi Moorman is managing partner of Sandhi, with DJ Bilsky as winemaker.
