After Andrea Cortonesi (pictured above) bought an almost ruined farmhouse called Uccelliera in Castelnuovo dell'Abate in 1986, he transformed the newly acquired property into a farm primarily dedicated to viticulture. Within just a few years, the agricultural entrepreneur, who came from a farming family, had already achieved success thanks to his professional expertise: Cortonesi's first Brunello di Montalcino was bottled in the 1993 vintage.
The company's own wine was immediately well received by lovers of good wines. Although the likeable, yet ambitious and self-critical estate owner still runs a restaurant in Siena near Piazza del Campo, he always makes enough time to run his farm, which is adjacent to flats, and to look after four wines as well as the grappa and olive oil production.
